I love collecting art and craft books and as I’m re-visiting what I did at Glasgow School of Art which is printed textiles and making repeat patterns, I pulled out this book I’ve had in my little library for a while now. I bought my copy at Lincraft in Australia for the bargain price of AUD $6.94 marked down from AUD $39.95.
This gem of a book will appeal to quilters, weavers, fibre artists, fabric and surface pattern designers. It’s a handy and inspirational resource you’ll find yourself pulling out from your bookshelf again and again.
It’s an old book, first published in 1988 and written by two Swedish ladies, Karin Jerstorp and Eva Kohlmark. The content and layout is a little bit dated and it’s pre-computers but the design elements and principles are exactly the same as how we tackle things using Photoshop or Illustrator.
On the back of the book:“The Fabric Design Book illustrates a variety of inspiring and interesting ways to design and sketch and create your own patterns. The book’s technical exercises use new techniques and unconventional materials to make design exciting and easy – even for beginners”
Enjoy the flip-through video and I’d love to hear what you think of the book. If you have it already what do you like about it?
It’s still available to purchase on Amazon but you might be lucky to snag it for a bargain in some of your local art and craft stores. Here are the links on Amazon:
