Emus are real characters and I’ve been lucky enough to be up close and personal to them but they can be quite aggressive. Maybe it’s because they can’t fly:) I love all of those feathers and their distinctive beaks. Their feet are enormous too. Decided to make this emu blue and call him “Caeruleus” which is Latin for greenish- blue. The original, which is sold, has been done in watercolours.

One evening when I went outside to feed the fish in our outdoor fish pond, I was struck by how beautiful the moon was shining that night, with its silvery beams dancing and reflecting on the water. The fish always come to the surface of the water when they see the food but much to my horror, only a foot away was a cane toad. I shooed him away and left the fish to enjoy their food. There’s a touch of fantasy in this artwork with the fish being drawn to the moon and the tree grabbing the toadstools towards the silvery orb. I chose not to include the cane toad. The original painting which is sold was done in watercolours and chalk pastels.

Sadly our beloved green tree frogs are becoming a rare find and I haven’t seen one in my garden for a long time although I sometimes hear them in the drain pipes during heavy rain showers. These two white-lipped green tree frogs are having a rendezvous in the rainforest and are prints from an original chalk pastel drawing I have hanging in my own home because I can’t part with it.

I love proteas, the National emblem of South Africa and they really remind me of Australia’s waratahs so I threw in some eucalypts for a more Australian floral display.
This digital illustration is part of a series called “Vases in Bloom” where I’m capturing the essence of flowers using rich textures.

I can’t believe how tiny these iconic, Australian birds are. I’ve been lucky enough to see these really cute blue wrens in my mother’s garden and she had a whole family at one time come to visit her. This is the male and has been done digitally using oils.

The Moon Tree is a magical tree whose leaves, at Midnight, transform themselves by curling up into sleeping pods where all the lost animals can take shelter for the night. A pair of Barn Owls are the guardians of the Moon Tree and watch over the sleeping animals to protect them. Surrounded by beautiful dandelion seeds and a little butterfly and blue wren who comes to visit.
Koalas, possums and a bilby have become separated from their families and wandered off as night falls. Feeling lost, bewildered and frightened they take comfort in the safe arms of the Moon Tree, out of harm’s way.
This artwork is also a fantasy scene with a message for young children who feel scared of the dark and the noises they hear. If the children think of a nearby garden tree as being the Moon Tree who is there to protect all the children and animals when the moon and stars come out. It’s ok to hear noises in the night as these are the little sounds being made by the owls and the animals as they take shelter for the night.
The prints are from an original canvas painting which was sold privately.
